JUNE - Belts & Hoses

posted on
Hoses provide a flexible connection for coolant flow between the engine, radiator, engine and heating block. What are the hoses in a car? Coolant hoses include the upper and lower radiator hoses plus heater hoses. Some cars include a bypass hose. When a belt breaks, slips and ultimately wears out,
everything from the power steering pump to the alternator and air conditioner stops working. When should I replace belts and hoses? Most manufacturers recommend replacing hoses every four years. V-belts should be replaced every three years or 36k miles. The lifespan of a typical serpentine belt is about 5 years or 50k miles. Broken hoses and belts are bad but a damaged engine is even worse.
